andrewFUN'd history

In November 2004, at the age of 2, Andrew was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood. Andrew spent the next 11 days in the hospital undergoing extreme amounts of testing, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and a surgical procedure to place an infusion port in his chest to allow for the pending chemotherapy. He was released with a "great prognosis" and came home to start his 39 month treatment program.

On January 8, 2008, at the age of 5 and in the final month of his treatment, Andrew developed a fever and required an injection of antibiotics to prevent infection to his medi-port. He went to the hospital for a routine procedure he had dozens of times over the previous 3 years. Andrew had an allergic reaction to the medication, went into anaphylactic shock, and passed away.

Despite his intense 3 years of treatment, Andrew lived life to the fullest and never let his situation slow him down. Always laughing, smiling and forever playing. Although he was sick, Andrew was never "sick."

The Andrew Fund was formed in 2009 to let other children with life-threatening or debilitating illnesses not be "sick." To let them enjoy their lives, as Andrew did, happy and forever having fun.
